WinX DVD to iPad Ripper is a DVD movie ripper for Windows. It allows you to convert entire DVD movies or individual titles into formats that are playable on the iPad. The supported output formats are MPEG-4 and H.264, both of which are natively playable on the iPad, iPod, iPhone and AppleTV. Thus, it is not surprising to see conversion profiles for these devices built into this application as well. You can load DVD movies or you can load the IFO and VOB files that make up the actual movie, if you have copied them to your hard drive before.
Graphically, the application is clearly divided in two parts. The top part has a sort of video player that can be used to take snapshots of your video and the list of titles that make up a DVD movie. There you can select which ones you want to convert and the audio and subtitle track that you want. The bottom part is where you choose the conversion settings.
In my testing, I converted the 5 minutes that the trial version allows you to using a normal-quality iPad profile. The resolution of my DVD was 720x576 so I didn't need any more than that. 640x480 did the job. The file played well, and audio and video were in sync. I saw some interlacing, but that is because I am a videophile and I pay attention to those details.
I recommend that you slide the volume bar to 0 DB to avoid any sound problems with your converted files.
- It works well.
- Easy to use.
- Profiles for iPod and iPhone as well.
- The app increases audio volume by default, and this can cause problems.
