WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is a full-featured ripper from Digiarty. If you look around, you will find a free version of this ripper that can rip DVD movies to video and audio formats quite well. However, the platinum version has several features that make it one of the most complete paid solutions out there.

Of course, the way both the free and the platinum rippers work is basically the same. You select a source for the application to rip from, an output format in the lower tabs, and click the rip button.

The Platinum version is a better fit for ripping DVD movies with good copy protection (encryption). The newest movies released come with better protection, and only the platinum edition of this ripper can handle them appropriately.

It has an advanced A/V Synchronizer that can help maintain your video and audio in sync when errors occur during encoding.

Perhaps the best feature included in the Platinum edition is the support for multiple processor cores. The free version can only make use of a single core. While it can produce good rips in an average time, having more than 1 core really makes a difference. Most processors these days come with multiple cores. The developers claim that you can have a DVD ripped in less than 5 minutes using this technology.

As a plus, you also get a bunch of encoding profiles for mobile devices like iPhones, iPods, PS3, etc. All of them get added as new tabs at the bottom of the application.

There are some advanced editing features that the free version just doesn't have.

Although this application is not free ($29.95), it offers quite a lot of new features and improvements over the free version. In any case, I like that you can download a fully functional trial to evaluate whether you need the Platinum version or not.
