The Walking Dead is an episodic adventure game. It is based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman, just like the popular TV series. There are some characters that appear both on the TV series and the game. However, the TV show and the game follow two different groups of people and different circumstances. There will be five episodes. Episode 1: A New Day was released in April of 2012. The following episodes should be released this year as well.
The first scene of the game follows you while you are transported to a penal institution on the back of a police car. The policeman who drives you engages in conversation with you. When it is time for you to reply, you can decide what to answer. Your replies and the choices that you make throughout the game will have an impact on how the story unfolds. Apparently, you have been wrongfully accused of a crime, but on the way to the penitentiary, the car crashes and you escape, only to find a different world. The zombies appear 10 minutes or so into the game, and they are very scary.
In the game, you need to explore elements and approach people to talk to them and uncover what is going on. Most of the game is played with your mouse, while you explore objects, but you also use the keyboard to browse between possible answers.
I played the first episode of this game and I liked it a lot. If you are a fan of the TV show or the comics, you will probably like this game. It doesn't focus as much on violence as other zombie games, but I didn't mind that.
