The Brooks were enjoying a family vacation on board of the Neptune in the Pacific Ocean when a powerful hurricane hits the ship, and it starts to sink. Tomas Brooks and his two kids are missing but as weather gets worse, the last chopper decides to abort the rescue operation. The mother refuses to leave the ship and decides to stay on board to save her family.

With that objective in mind, your character ventures into the sinking ship to explore the different rooms and sort out multiple obstacles to see if she can find her husband and kids. The ship is in a mess, everything is scattered around, there are damaged electricity cables, while lightning and thunder crash outside the ship. This is the scenario where this adventure game takes place.

Nightmare on the Pacific plays as a casual point-and-click game that blends the search of hidden objects with a variety of puzzles and riddles. As you move your mouse over a scene, areas of interest will be marked by sparkles or different cursor changes indicating there is something you should pay attention to. The ship is enormous and so there are plenty of areas to examine; a casino, dinning hall, museum, cabins, etc. Great part of the game consists in gaining access to areas that are locked.

Hidden-object scenes are numerous and simple to solve, presenting the usual mechanism. Items that can help you solve upcoming puzzles will be stored in your inventory and you will be given rechargeable hints in case you need help to spot objects. Hints cannot be used outside HOG scenes, which is a shame because sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to do.

Around the ship you will also encounter different types of mini games that you can skip if you like. Tasks to complete and goals will be listed at the top of the screen, and there is also a notebook keeping track of your progress.

Nightmare on the Pacific - Collector's Edition is an absolutely gorgeous hidden-object adventure that stands out for its cinematic look and feel; the visuals are spectacular and there is full voice acting throughout. It has a difficulty level that feels just right and a story that manages to keep you interested in.
