Though Windows itself comes with enough tools to manage your disks and partitions at a basic level, MiniTool Partition Wizard has certain advantages over the scattered disk-related features of your OS. Not only its functionality goes far beyond “basic” – it’s also neatly organized in one single interface and many of its functions are wizard-driven, which makes partition moving, resizing, merging, splitting, copying, formatting, etc., safer and easier to use.

MiniTool Partition Wizard comes in various flavors – Free, Professional, Server, Enterprise, and Technician. There are significant differences between the Free version and the rest in terms of functionality. All commercial editions (from Pro to Technician) share the same features, though they differ in terms of number of users and the environment in which they can be deployed (one or more companies, business environment, server support, etc.). The Free version that anyone can download and install is fully functional and has no time limitations, though you will find that some of its options have been disabled. Lost or deleted partition recovery, NTFS to FAT32 conversion, cluster size change, OS to MBR/GPT disk conversion, OS migration and copy from a MBR to a GPT disk, dynamic volumes management, changing the ID or the serial numbers of your partitions, or the creation of Win-PE-based bootable media are only available when you upgrade to one of the paid versions.

Despite these logical license restrictions, the free version of MiniTool Partition Wizard is comprehensive enough to make it worth adding to your desktop. All functions are clearly organized in an extensive menu on the left-hand side of the program’s main interface, with a plethora of features to change and to manage your partitions. Depending on the level of sensitivity of the action you want the program to perform, it will open either a wizard on a new window or a simpler dialog. Either way, you will always find enough information about the selected function to guarantee the safety and integrity of your disks and data.

I won’t copy here the extensive list of features that the program offers. Suffice it to say that it includes an excellent and convenient mixture of basic and advanced functions that will surely cover the needs of the most demanding users. From simply creating or deleting a partition to resizing it (one at a time, though) and from changing its drive letter to wiping it using the safest algorithms, you will find it hard to spot a function that is not present in any of the program’s various editions. The free version itself, despite its reduced functionality, offers much more than what the average Windows user will ever need, disk-to-disk OS migration included.
