Free Video to Xbox Converter is a free video converter. It was designed to convert video files for playback on the Xbox 360, although files converted with this tool will be playable on pretty much any modern computer and several mobile video playback devices, such as iPhones, iPads, etc.
Since this is a free video converter, I won't pay much attention to what this application doesn't have, and will avoid making any mention of that.
The graphical user interface is very basic, with a space in the middle of the screen where files added to the queue for conversion will show. The application supports batch-mode processing, which means you can add as many files as you want, even in different formats. All the files in the queue will be converted to the same format, though.
The converter only can output H.264 files, in a variety of different resolutions. There are four profiles, two for HD files and two for regular-resolution files. The audio codec used is AAC, which is pretty much standard these days.
In my testing, I added an XviD AVI file and an MKV file. The AVI file was successfully converted to a regular-resolution file. I choose the 720p profile for the MKV file, so I didn't lose any quality. The process took considerably longer. But the end result was a nice quality file that played fine on my Xbox 360.
- It works well.
- Good design.
