Download Accelerator Manager is intended to manage and speed up Internet downloads. The program has an intuitive interface somewhat similar to those of other download managers. The download jobs are automatically categorized according to their state into All, Finished and Unfinished; and at the same time, they are further classified into the type of contents. In addition to this, these tasks can be temporarily paused, because the program supports resuming downloads.
New jobs are easily created by adding their URLs. Moreover, the program features browser integration, which means that you can easily start a download from within your browser. Fortunately, several navigators are supported, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera and Netscape.
There is a separate application called MediaGrabber, which comes in the same installation package and can be called from Download Accelerator Manager. This is the developers’ response to the increasing need to download streaming contents, mostly video and music. However, such a demanded feature is hidden in one of the menu entries while there is no toolbar button for it.
The program can be tweaked according to your preferences and type of connection, supporting the use of proxy servers and passwords for sites. It also allows you to schedule tasks so that they do not interfere with your browsing speed. Unfortunately, it does not include a spider, a feature that would allow you to download full sites. Moreover, it does not support downloading torrents, which is also very popular.
In general, Download Accelerator Manager is a comprehensive free downloader, so it will cost you nothing to give it a try. However, it is not as powerful as other applications of its kind. Some users have even reported program crashes, although I had to admit this was no such cases when I tried it.
