Software vulnerabilities are a main cause of cybernetic attacks; that is why installing the most recent versions and patches is considered a must. Therefore, a program such as Avira Software Updater, which keeps your software updated, cannot be neglected.

The application is actually very easy to use. It can scan your system very quickly to detect outdated software. In this regard, it supports a list of more than 120 major applications and Windows itself. Therefore, it can detect missing Windows updates as well as outdated browsers and frameworks. For old products, it provides links to download the required installers and patches. If you are using the free version, the rest of the process needs to be done manually. However, its Pro version has its own built-in downloader, which also tells you the progress of each data transfer. The paid version can also perform automatic checks and updates periodically. However, it fails to successfully continue the update process if a system reboot is required.

One thing I did not like about this tool is that it is compulsory to install it through Avira Connect as no independent installer seems to be available. In addition, it can also install browser extensions or plugins without your consent.

In general, Avira Software Updater seems to be a good choice to keep your computer updated, though it does not support monitoring as many applications as other tools available. As seen, it has two different versions, and you may consider saving a few bucks by letting the free tool find the outdated products and doing the rest of the process yourself. Otherwise, if you have some money to spare, you can always automate everything by purchasing the Pro version of this program.
